Misya Meze & Grill serves Turkish and Mediterranean food and has been open since April 2019, but it was a place I wanted to try for myself. With big competition from other local tasty restaurants in the area, like nearby competitors Côte Brassiere restaurant, I was expecting big things.
The Herts restaurants' roots came from the Anatolia in Turkey and they proudly introduced the Turkish Anatolian culture to London and Hertfordshire 30 years ago. They offer various teas and coffees, wines from Spain Turkey and Italy, but also a growing range of health drinks and is also a Halal restaurant.
I took a trip over on Thursday (October 6) and as soon as I entered, I was impressed by the service. I was greeted very politely by two female members of staff on duty, who kindly seated me.
When I sat down, there were around five other diners in at the time – all occupied in conversation and the atmosphere was optimistic and cheerful for the meal ahead. My drink order was taken quickly and brought to me in less than a minute! Scanning the menu, there were many options for hot and cold starters.
I was offered red olives and a small salad plate of carrots and as I scanned the menu, and there were many options for hot and cold starters. There were over 25 main dishes on offer and five veggie options, however there was a lunchtime menu which offered a main course and a dessert and was an offer I could not turn down.
After talking to the waitress, she was very considerate of my gluten-free diet and explained exactly what dishes were safe and what substitutes were available. But after that, I was ready to order and selected my choices on the lunchtime menu.
For my main, I had marinated cubes of chicken seasoned and grilled on a skewer which was served with salad and rice. It was cooked delightfully and had that authentic grilled taste I was desiring. The rice and the balsamic vinegar flavoured salad complimented the dish well.
The chicken cubes were well-seasoned and melted in the mouth. When cut into, the succulent chicken oozed out and displayed a mouth-watering texture. The rice and salad made a well-rounded healthy dish and perfect for lunch.
The main course filled me up full of carbs and protein, and was another delightful dish. Overall, it was fairly priced too in a deal with a dessert and for someone with a big sweet tooth, this was music to my ears.
My only weakness for the dish was that it could have been filled with a little more chicken. However, it left me wanting more for another future visit which might be smart for customers like myself and residents nearby for the best-rated Welwyn Garden City restaurant.
Rating – 7/10
I have a huge sweet tooth, so having a dessert at lunchtime was a delight to hear in the deal and I was very excited to devour it. It was a different version of a crème brûlée to what I am used to.
Previously, I have always had them hot, however this time it was cold and had an added gem in it. My crème brûlée had a frozen raspberry in it, which was a nice change and still brought the goods as I expected.
The size of the dish was more than generous and absolutely hit the spot. The two dishes in total for £11.99 was a very fair price with the high-quality taste and generous amount for the dessert.
Rating – 8.5/10
The service was as good as the food, which tells you how enjoyable the experience was. The waitress serving was very buoyant and friendly, ensuring the experience was an enjoyable one.
When staff were not serving, they were preparing for their guests expected to arrive later on. The way she explained what foods were gluten-free and what was not alone made me want to eat at Misya Meze & Grill again.
The food was high-quality, and art deco-style plates and bows to plate up the Mediterranean food, left me feeling impressed. The food was delightful and illustrated to me why many took to TripAdvisor to state their views.
I have not tried many WGC restaurants but this has kick-started my list of best restaurants in Herts. The atmosphere was soothed by the Mediterranean music playing in the background with customers coming and going through their lunch hours, and the mood was well-set and added to the meal.
All of the staff were very welcoming and up-beat, whilst all dressed professional in black and were attached to the Mediterranean Islands.
The scenery was very modern – as it looked like the restaurant had literally just opened – and the décor was black and gold, with oak wood tables and comfortable black leather chairs. The appearance looked very modern and with reasonable lunchtime prices it was an all-round positive experience.
The bar looked very high-quality and well-decked out next to the kitchen where you could see them eagerly working away through a glass panel. I would recommend those in the area and living close to definitely give it a try and it lived up to the expectations of being the top-rated WGC restaurant.
