Local volunteers raise funds, pack meals to help feed starving children – East Idaho News

IDAHO FALLS — Hundreds of volunteers put on hairnets and gloves in Idaho Falls and got to work packing meals for starving children around the world.
Feed My Starving Children is a Christian nonprofit organization headquartered in Minnesota. It works with food distribution partners nationwide that stay with communities for the long haul, according to its website.
A group involved in FMSC in Idaho Falls started gathering donations from the community in May and will continue through November.
Jordan Boyle, the financial coordinator for the Idaho Falls group, and about 500 volunteers packed food at the Bonneville County Fairgrounds’ 4H building this weekend. They need another $4,000 to meet their goal.
“The goal was to provide 100,000 meals to children around the world who are starving and the primary places that they provide the food is places like the Philippines, Africa, a lot in Ukraine and Haiti,” Boyle says. “It costs about 25 cents for each meal to be provided. To do 100,000 (meals) is about $25,000.”
Ball Ventures is just one of the many local businesses that has donated to the cause. Company employees even helped pack food on Friday. They scooped rice and vital nutrients into plastic bags.
Trisha Randall, the prayer coordinator for Feed My Starving Children in Idaho Falls, says the bag is a combination of rice, soy, vegetables and vitamins and provides one complete meal for a child.
The meals will now be shipped to one of the FMSC distribution centers in Arizona. Once it arrives, the group will find out which country will benefit.
“I think it’s really amazing that FMSC really focuses on community involvement and yet its personal mission is a mission for Jesus Christ. They are instrumental in bringing communities together. Together, Idaho Falls can have an impact,” Randall said.
